After completing a comprehensive Country Action Plan and stakeholder consultation process, Guatemala was selected in 2014 as an Alliance focus country. As part of Phase II of our market-enabling roadmap, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves and our partners are implementing programs in Guatemala that support innovation, consumer financing, market development, and awareness-raising.  The activities will support the Guatemalan government’s adoption target of 650,000 clean cookstoves by 2023. This stakeholder driven process has also led to the creation of the Cluster of Clean Cookstoves and Fuels, which continues to advance the interests of the country’s private sector, NGO, and research communities.

Alliance efforts in Guatemala are centered on increasing support for enterprise development through various Alliance grant facilities and our Catalytic Small Grants program, and working to launch consumer awareness campaigns to generate demand and increase awareness of HAP and clean cooking solutions during Phase II. Juan Carlos Paiz, Co-Founder and President of the industrial bakery Pani-Fresh, serves on the Alliance’s Advisory Council.
